Abstract

PURPOSE: To protect a brick of a furnace bottom from erosion due to an electrode bath by providing a carbonaceous substance coated iron plate to an upper surface of a lower part of a carbonaceous electrode of the furnace bottom for the aluminum electrolytic furnace lined with the brick.
CONSTITUTION: An iron plate is sprayed or brush coated with a carbonaceous substance dispersed in a solvent or immersed in a dispersion of said carbonaceous substance and, further, coated by the pyrolysis of a hydrocarbon, the vapor deposition of said carbonaceous substance and the like to prepare the carbonaceous substance coated iron plate 11.
