Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a bipolar electrode which provides both a large output as well as a high capacity per unit weight, and has a small energy loss and a little drop in voltage, by making many conductive fibers to be dispersed within a plastic layer so that they penetrate the layer across its thickness. CONSTITUTION:A plastic sheet 3 is made of a thermoplastic resin or a thermosetting resin, such as polytetrafluoroethylene resin, polyethylene resin, or acrylate- styrene resin. Conductive fibers 7 are placed within the sheet 3, so that they penetrate the sheet 3 across its thickness. A positive material layer 1 made of lead oxide or the like is provided on a surface of the sheet 3, while a negative active material layer 2 made of lead or the like is provided on the other surface of the sheet 3. As the above conductive fiber, carbon fiber, lead fiber, silver fiber, nickel fiber, or a glass fiber plated with a conductive metal such as gold, silver or platinum is used.
