Abstract

PURPOSE: To largely decrease the amount of generation of NOX by attaching a burner capable of ensuring a stable flame at a high excess air ratio to a furnace which has no heating surface and whose combustion area has a high temperature, and supplying said burner with a gas to be heated which has a low oxygen concentration.
CONSTITUTION: A flame tube 21 is provided in a thermal insulating furnace wall 20 of a thermal insulating furnace such as temperature raising furnace or deodorizing furnace, and a burner nozzle 22 is provided so as to open into said flame tube 21. Said burner nozzle 22 is provided at the end of a fuel supply pipe 23 through which a fuel FB is supplied, and a combustion air passage 24 is formed around said fuel supply pipe 23. A duct 26 for the gas to be heated is connected to the combustion air passage 24 and supplied with the gas to be heated which includes, e.g., more than 16% oxygen as substitute for combustion air. Said gas to be heated is swirled in the combustion air passage 24 by means of swirl vanes 25, supplied around the burner nozzle 22 in great quantities, mixed with the fuel from the nozzle 22 and burnt.
