Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain fine chromium oxide having low crystallinity and suitable for use as ceramic material, etc. by allowing an alkali to act on an aqueous soln. of a trivalent chromium salt, calcining the resulting chromium hydroxide by heating, and washing the product.
CONSTITUTION: An alkali agent such as potassium hydroxide is added to an aqueous soln. of a trivalent chromium salt and reacted at about 5W9pH to precipitate chromium hydroxide, which is then separated by solid-liq. separation. The precipitate with salts adsorbed is heated to ≤450°C without washing, and the calcined product is washed to remove the salts as impurities. By this method fine active chromium oxide of relatively high purity is obtd. easily.
