Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain thin light-weight lenses with high workability for glasses by molding a polymer of an epoxy group-cong. styrene deriv. represented by a specific structural formula into plastic lenses for glasses. CONSTITUTION:An epoxy group-contg. styrene deriv. represented by the formula (where each of X, Y, Z and R2 is H, halogen alkyl, oxyhydrogen or cyano and R1 is alkyl) is polymerized, and the resulting resin is injection molded into lenses, which are then heat cured to open the epoxy groups. Thus, the resin is converted into a three-dimensional crosslinked polymer, and lenses with high workability for glasses are obtd. As the styrene deriv. p-glycidylstyrene, p-glycidyl-alpha-methylstyrene, p-isopropenylstyrene oxide or the like is used.
