Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve corrosion resistance by coating overflowed part of welding and remaining end faces with tin melted and flowed out from tinned steel sheet or wire electrode at the time of welding.
CONSTITUTION: A tinned steel plate is cut into blanks 9 of specified size and a number of such blanks are stacked up into a stack 9'. Flux is applied by a roller 10 on two faces that become the end faces of lapped part of the stack 9' and sent to a can body 16 forming machine 13. The formed can body 14 is sent to the welding roller electrode along mandrel 15. The roller electrode is made of a pair of upper and lower electrodes 16a, b. A groove is provided on the outer circumference and structured so that wire electrodes 3a, b which are thicker than the depth of the groove pass its inside. Then uniform welding pressure is applied to whole lapped part 7 of the formed can body, and electric resistance welding is made so that the overflowed part of the weld zone and remaining end faces are coated with tin melted and flowed out from the wire electrodes 3a, b.
