Abstract

PURPOSE:To display usable time of a battery corresponding to load conditions, by obtaining the usable time of the battery from discharge characteristic curve information corresponding to a load current and a load voltage at the time of check. CONSTITUTION:A current flowing in a load when a switch 12 is closed is measured by a load current meter 13. The measured load current is supplied to a judging circuit 16 together with the load voltage from a load voltage meter 15. In said judging circuit 16, the discharge characteristic curve information corresponding to the measured load current is selected among a plurality of different pieces of discharge characteristic curve information depending on the loads. The usable time of the battery is calculated from the selected discharge characteristic curve information and the measured load voltage, and displayed on a display 17. Thus, the usable time of the battery can be displayed, and, e.g., when used in a tape recorder, the event wherein the said recording is stopped halfway due to the exhaustion of the battery can be prevented.
