Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the knocking detection accuracy by controlling the gain of an amplifier circuit according to the engine speed so that the ratio of the knocking signal level to the noise signal level is kept constant. CONSTITUTION:The output of a vibration pickup 1 is amplified by selective amplifiers 2 and 3, gated by gate circuits 5 and 6 to divide into a knocking signal and a noise signal, peak-held by peak-hold circuits 7 and 8 and sent to a comparator 9 to detect knocking. Whether there is knocking or not is decided from the level difference between the knocking gate output and the noise gate output. The ratio of the knocking signal level to the noise signal level, which varies with the engine speed, is controlled so as to be a given constant value by means of a gain controlling circuit 4 by varying the amplification degree of the selective amplifier 3 with the engine speed.
