Abstract

PURPOSE: To synthesize urea through a highly stable method continuable for a long term regardless of the operating conditions, by using a silicon carbide material having corrosion and abrasion resistance in a part which is subject to corrosion, cavitation or erosion in an apparatus.
CONSTITUTION: A silicon carbide material, desirably a high-density one with a specific gravity ≥2.9, is used in a part which is subject to violent corrosion, cavitation, and erosion, e.g. a plug tip 4 and the inner surface 6 of a seat ring 5, in a reducing valve body 1 to synthesize urea. The silicon carbide material includes any of simple silicon carbide and a coated material prepared by coating the surface of a base material, e.g. a metal or ceramic, with silicon carbide by the coating technique, e.g. spraying or chemical deposition. The silicon carbide material can be used in all the parts to be in contact with a process fluid having strong corrosiveness at high temperature and pressure in the urea synthesizig process, and the change of valves is eliminated.
