Abstract

PURPOSE: A low-toxicity anticataractal agent is made using N-acetylcysteine as an active principle, thus being very effective on the prevention of development and aggravation of cataract.
CONSTITUTION: This anticataractal agent contains, as an active principle, N-acetylcysteine, which has been known as an expectorant or collagenase inhibitor. The compound is prepared into tablets, pills, capsules, or injection solution and administered as an anticataractal agent. The dose is 1W5,000mg/day/adult in oral administration, preferably 10W2,000mg/day/adult, or 1W5,000mg/day/adult, preferably 10W1,000mg in injection administration. N-acetylcysteine is prepared by direct acetylation of cysteine or redution of acetylated cystine.
