Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal display element of uniform cell thickness and good driving characteristics by packing liquid crystals in a liquid crystal cell case then pressing the case and sealing the packing hole in the state that the substrates and the spacer microparticles stuck on electrode surfaces are held closely contacted. CONSTITUTION:Spacer microparticles are beforehand dispersed and stuck over the entire surface of either one electrode layer side of a pair of substrates having the electrode layers and liquid crystal orientated layers. After liquid crystals are packed through the packing hole of the case formed by opposing these substrates, pressing force is exerted to the case from the outside so that the inside surfaces of the substrates and the spacer microparticles such as glass fiber powder are brought into close contact with each other. If the packing hole is sealed in this state, the inside of the case is made into the evacuated state when the pressing pressure is removed and the spacing between the substrates is maintained by the balance with the atmospheric pressure exerted on the case from the outside while it remains in conformity with the diameter of the spacer microparticles. Hence, the liquid crystal cell of uniform thickness is obtained.
