Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a cosmetic having improved color, odor and stability and constant quality, by incroporating a mixed ester obtained by reacting trimethylolethane and/or sorbitol, a fatty acid having a specific number of carbon atoms and a dibasic acid having a specific number of carbon atoms as a base in the cosmetic. CONSTITUTION:A mixed ester obtained by reacting (A) trimethylolethane and/or sorbitol with (B) a >=8C straight chain, branched or unsaturated hydroxy fatty acid and (C) a >=12C straight chain and/or branched dibasic acid in an amount of 1/2 mole or less based on the component (A) as a base is incorporated in a cosmetic. The mixed ester has improved properties as a base for the cosmetic as follows: High affinity for and wetting property to the skin, colorless, odorless and chemically inert, good compatibility with waxes and completely soluble in castor oil. The esterification method is preferably the simultaneous reaction of the components (A) with (B) and (C) from the economic viewpoint.
