Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent deposition of polymer scales on reactor inner walls or agitator surfaces, by suspension-polymerizing vinyl chloride in a polymerization reactor to which the reaction product of furfural, an amine compound and an acid is added previously.
CONSTITUTION: A reaction product is obtained by reacting (i) furfural, (ii) an amine compound such as an aliphatic amine such as methylamine, an aminoalcohol such as 2-aminoethanol or a fatty acid amide such as N,N-dimethylformamide, in an amount of 1W1/nmol per mol of component (i), and (iii) an acid such as hydrochloric acid or acetic acid, in an amount of 1/mWn/m mol per mol of component (ii), wherein n is the number of the amino groups per molecule of the amine compound and m is a basicity. Prior to suspension-polymerizing vinyl chloride or a mixture thereof with a different monomer, 0.05W50ppm by wt. based on the monomer, of the above-produced product is added to a polymerization reactor. Then, the polymerization is carried out in the presence of an oil-soluble polymerization initiator.
