PURPOSE:To decrease the weight of scanning and obtain stable scanning speed by moving a scanner motor exclusively used for driving a lens together with a lens moving carriage in varying magnification by moving a mirror through lens scanning slit exposure thereby changing the optical path length. CONSTITUTION:The copying apparatus consists of a variable magnification part 1A and a copying part 1B, and an electrostatic drum 100 exposed by the light from the mirror part 9 of the part 1A is subjected to prescribed copying in the copying part 1B. After the original on the platen 2 of the variable magnification part is lighted by lighting parts 3-6, 3'-6', it is projected by a lens 7.
