Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the subject thermostat for the control amount of a cooling water of a radiator by a method wherein a valve is formed by the use of a shape memory metal, said deformation opens and closes the valve, and which has a reduced flow resistance of water and performs operations with good correspondence to changes of water temperature.
CONSTITUTION: The valve 10 is formed using a shape memory metal, such as copper-zinc-aluminum alloy, and a beltlike part 8 and a pair of blades 9a, 9b, which change the shape according to changes in temperature, are mounted. The valve 10 is consistututed such that it opens fully at a set temperature and closes at a cooling time. As a result, the blades 9a, 9b perform operations to open and close the valve according to a cooling water temperature, and permits the control of the amt. of cooling water according to a cooling water temperature. This enables the production of said thermostat which opens and shuts reliably according to a change in water temperature.
