Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the weight and size of the disc brake by providing the air-oil converter which supplies and discharges low pressure oil and high pressure oil to and from a cylinder of a caliper body of the disc brake integrally within the caliper body. CONSTITUTION:There is provided integrally within the caliper body 14 of the disc brake the air- oil converter which supplies and discharges to and from the cylinder of the caliper body 14, the low pressure oil flowed by a cooperative operation of first and second oil pressure cylinders 9 and 10 and the high pressure oil generated by a single operation of the second oil pressure cylinder 10. When an air piston 7a descends and a ball valve 25 closes an oil passage 21, the working oil within the first and second cylinders 9 and 10 is compressed by the first oil-operated piston 7b to supply the low pressure oil through an oil passage 29 to the cylinder (not shown) of the caliper of disc brake. When the piston 7a further descends to make the second oil-operated piston 7c engage with the cylinder 10, the oil pressure within the cylinder 10 rises to push up a piston 13a so that the pressurized oil within the cylinder 9 is made to return rapidly through an oil passage 28 to an oil pool 4. As a result of this, the air pressure within an air cylinder 5 is converted into the pressure of the cylinder 10, which pushes the high pressure oil into the cylinder of the caliper of the disc brake through the oil passage 29.
