Abstract

A brake system (10, 800, 860, 940, 950, 980, 990, 1040, 1200) including a master cylinder (12) for generating pressurized fluid, a wheel brake (26) in fluid communication with the master cylinder (12), and a first valve (28) for regulating the flow of fluid between the master cylinder and the wheel brake (26). The brake system further includes a pedal travel simulator (118) including a housing having a bore (124) formed therein. A piston (128) is slidably disposed in the bore (124). The piston (128) and the housing generally defining a fluid chamber (132) which is in fluid communication with the master cylinder (12). The pedal travel simulator (118) includes a spring (139) which biases the piston (128) in a direction so as to contract the fluid chamber (132). The brake system further includes a source of pressurized fluid (22) and a boost valve (116) which is in fluid communication with the source of pressurized fluid (22) and the wheel brake (90). The boost valve (116) is actuated by the spring (139) of the pedal travel simulator (118) to supply pressurized fluid from the source of pressurized fluid (22) to the wheel brake (90) at a pressure ratio greater than fluid pressure generated by the master cylinder.
