Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce the artificial marble suitable for forming industrial art objects having a luster similar to that of natural marble and an impression of whitish transparency from a surface-layer constituting material and a core constituting material of specified compositions.
CONSTITUTION: A hardening accelerator, an unsaturated polyester resin liquid for molding, pulverulent high-purity calcium carbonate and a polyester resin based liquid white paint are mixed together to form a liquid mixture, then a required amount of particulate calcium carbonate is added solely or together with quartz sand to the liquid mixture, and the resultant mixture is stirred. After removing impurities from the stirred mixture, an appropriate amount of a liquid hardener is added and stirred to produce the surface-layer constituting material. On the other hand, an unsaturated polyester resin liquid for molding or that for hand lay-up molding is blended into a liquid mixture of pulverulent high-purity calcium carbonate, particulate calcium carbonate and a liquid hardener, and the resultant mixture is stirred to produce the core constituting material. After coating the surface- layer constituting material on the inside surface of a mold and gelling the material, the core constituting material is introduced into the mold and is then dried to obtain the marble for industrial arts.
