Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:The syn isomer of an N-benzylideneglycine derivative expressed by formula I (X1 and X2 are halogen ; R is lower alkyl) and a salt thereof.
USE: A psychotropic drug, particularly useful as a minor tranquilizer.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II (R1 is alkyl) is reacted with an alkali matal alkoxide, e.g. sodium methoxide or ethoxide, to give a compound of formula III, which is then hydrolyzed under acidic conditions to afford the compound of formula I.
