Abstract

PURPOSE: An ethanol-assimilating yeast is continuously cultured by using the concentration of oxygen dissolved in the culture medium as a limiting factor and the amounts of nutritions in the culture medium and the feed rate of oxygen are made to increase as high as possible to raise the concentration of yeast cell bodies by leaps and bounds.
CONSTITUTION: An ethanol-assimilating yeast such as Candida brassicae ATCC 32196 (IFO 1664) is inoculated in a culture medium containing usual carbon source, inoganic nutrition source, nitrogen source and others and continuously cultured under setting the limitation of the concentration of oxygen dissolved in the culture medium to less than 1mg/1 by increasing the feed rates of the medium components and of oxygen as high as possible with stirring of 300W1,500rpm at 37°C.
