Abstract
PURPOSE:To read optical signals in high resolution by a method wherein a core zone of an optical fiber is made shorter than a clad zone, and a light absorbing material or a light reflecting material is provided on an end plane of the clad. CONSTITUTION:A light receipt plane 42a of the core is situated inside the end plane 43a of the clad 43. This construction can easily be formed by selectively etching the SiO2 core by means of HF or CF4 plasma, in case of the optical fiber formed with the clad zone by polyethylene resin or fluoric resin after the finishing work with Si resin. For this reason, an incident angle theta to the light receipt plane 42a is made narrow controlled by the end plane 43a of the clad 43, irregular reflection lights from an image plane of a transmission manuscript 2 are difficult to be received and the lights of only the optical signals are easily received, so that the transmission image can be read in the high resolution. Cover-attachment of an opaque material such as black paint on the end plane 43a makes the irregular reflection lights from end plane 43a be effectively absorbed.
