Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable a continuous production of copper coated steel wire with high adhesive strength in manufacture of copper coated steel wire, using steel wire and copper tape as starting materials by possessing a specific relationship between a radius of steel wire and a thickness of copper tape.
CONSTITUTION: Steel wire (a) of 5W15mm diameter is sent to a forming device 10 through loopers 2, a straightening device 3, brush rolls 4 after treating it with straightening, defatting, cleansing. Meanwhile, a copper tape (b) of 21W66.7mm width is cleansed through loopers 6, a cleansing device 7, and a brush roll 8, then is sent to the forming device 10. In this case, the relationship between a radius (r) of steel wire and a thickness (t) of copper tape, is provided as shown in formula (I). The forming device 10 covers the copper tape around steel wire and a welding device 12 in a container 11 shielded with Ar gas welds a seam line of the copper tape. Then a wire drawing die 13 draws the wire into a composite wire which is pulled out by a drawing device 14 and wound by a winding drum 15.
