Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an optical branching device having arbitrary branching ratios and high mechanical strength and durability by forming dielectric multilayer films consisting of >=2 kinds out of TiO2, Al2O3, SiO2 on the slope at one end of optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:One end of an optical fiber 21 for transmission is sloped to 45 deg., and is formed thereon with dielectric multilayer films consisting of, for example, three layers-TiO2 20-1, Al2O3 20-2, TiO2 30-3 by being given prescribed refraction at suitable rates of vapor deposition. After fibers 21-23 are accurately fixed in the V-grooves provided in a supporting case 27, resin coats 24-26 such as nylon are applied to bond these. The connection parts of the optical fibers 21-23 are bonded by a resin 28. Thereby, the optical branching device having arbitrary branching ratios as well as high mechanical strength and durability is obtained.
