Abstract

PURPOSE:To lower the sliding resistance of a sealing member used in a hydraulic shock absorber for sealing an opening at one end of a cylinder hermetically without deteriorating the sealing performance, by constituting at least a part of the sliding surface of a piston rod or the like by a resin having a low sliding friction factor. CONSTITUTION:This hydraulic shock absorber comprises a cylinder 10 which consists of a cylinder body 11, a top cap 12 and a rear cap 13, and it is sealed by a sealing member S interposed between a seal retainer 14 and a rod guide 15 at the top of the cylinder body 11. This sealing member S is composed of a static seal member 16 and a rod seal member 17 which is fitted in the static seal member 16 of rubber substantially at its central part. Here, the rod seal member 17 consists of a rubber body 17b and a sliding sleevelike member 17c which is fitted into a tapered internal bore 173 formed in the rubber body 17b and functions as a sliding surface for the piston rod 30. The sliding sleevelike member 17c is made of a fluorine resin having a low sliding friction factor.
