Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify a detector by scanning an image plane by using photometric systems of different measuring areas thereon and deciding out-of-focus from the frequency distribution of the differences in two kinds of the obtained transmittances or transmission densities.
CONSTITUTION: The transmitted light of a photographic film 5 moving in the arrow direction is split by a half-mirror 6 and the split rays enter photoelectric multipliers 10, 13 via slits 9, 12 of different aperture widths. The aperture of the slit 12 is larger than the slit 9, and the photometric area on the film plane is larger as well. The difference in the outputs of the multipliers 10, 13 is calculated by a differential amplifier 14, and the cumulative frequency of every area is calculated by integrating circuits 16, 17 via a frequency distribution calculating circuit 15. The ratio thereof is calculated by a comparating circuit 18 and depending upon whether this value exceeds a threshold value or not, wherether the image is sharp or out-of-focus is discriminated.
