Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the distortion of modulated light by interposing a mode mixer between a light emitting element and optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:An electric analog signal inputted to input terminal 5 of light transmitter 1 drives LED6 for direct intensity modulation. Modulated light from LED6 is led to optical fiber 3 via mode mixer 2 and then converted by photodetector 7 in light receiver 4 into an electric signal, which is amplified to a proper level and then outputted as an analog signal to output terminal 8. Said mode mixer 2 nearly uniforms mode distribution in optical fiber 3 varying with the driving current of LED6 to reduce the current dependency, thereby sending the signal to fiber 3. Consequently, even if a loss of mode dependency is generated by fiber 3, the modulated light never distorts in itself, so that the system with good linearity can e constituted.
