Abstract
PURPOSE:To generate the electromagnetic wave of the far infrared without requiring a light source for incidence by a method wherein the electromagnetic wave having quantum energy near the quantum energy of an optical phonon is positively fedback, and a current is flowed to a semiconductor. CONSTITUTION:A GaP crystal 3 is fitted with an electrode 6 to allow a current from a DC power source 6 to be flowed thereto. Reflectors 1, 2 are arranged on both sides of the GaP crystal 3. With the propagation of the phonon in a polariton mode throughout the crystal, the current is flowed to cause a collision ionization to transit electrons of an impurity excited at a high energy level to a low level. Thereby, the phonon is discharged and the phonon in a polariton mode is discharged and amplified.
