Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure an amount exposed to the radiation accurately within a wide range by mixing a given standard sample to a detecting element. CONSTITUTION:A standard sample containing an Mn<2+> is uniformly mixed into a quartz rod 1 as a detecting element. After irradiating a previously determined dose of the radiation to such a detecting element, an ESR signal intensity of an electron spin resonance is measured. Then, the dose is increased in order to repeat the measurement, thereby describing a calibration curve which shows the relation between the dose and the ESR signal ratio intensity. The amount of exposure can be directly read from the ratio intensity of this calibration curve. Then, the detecting element is attached to a position or an object to be measured the dose exposed to the radiation and exposed standing it for a suitable period. The measurement of ESR of the detecting element is performed to obtain the ESR signal ratio intensity at the same time, thereby obtaining a dose exposed comparing with the calibration curve.
