Abstract

PURPOSE: To machine a nut which is used for a ball screw and has a high lead and a sufficient length by axially dividing said nut.
CONSTITUTION: A nut 13 is axially divided into a plurality of nut pieces 13a and 13b, which are detachably connected together by using bolts 23. Under said connected condition, one end of the nut 13 is clamped down to a rotary driving apparatus, and a ball guide groove 21 of high lead is machined from the inner circumferential surface at the other end of the nut 13 by using a machining apparatus 15. When the internal machining has been finished up to the connecting part 27 between the nut pieces 13a and 13b, the machining apparatus 15 is once retreated, and after the finished nut piece has been removed from the connecting part 27, the internal machining for the remaining nut piece, which has been clamped to the rotary driving apparatus, is performed by using the machining apparatus 15 again.
