Abstract

PURPOSE: To balance the rate of supplying and the rate of consumption of a wire electrode as against the ruggedness of base metals and hand shaking and prevent weld detects by changing pulselike voltage or pulse number in correspondence to the change in welding arc current or average arc voltage.
CONSTITUTION: If the arc is fired between a wire electrode 10 and base metals 16 by closing a main power source 20 and an auxiliary power source 22, a voltage drop corresponding to current occurs across a resistor 40. This is detected with a discriminating instruction circuit 42, and if the peak value of pulselike current, that is, maximum voltage per pulse, exceeds separately provided reference voltage, the output signal of the circuit 42 is supplied to a dial 36 to change the firing angle of a thyristor 34, whereby the peak value of the pulselike output voltage from the main power source 20 is lowered. Or the output signal of the circuit 42 is supplied to a pulse-number variable circuit per unit time 48, whereby the preset relation between the signal voltage and the number of pulses is changed and the pulse number per unit time is increased from the next pulse. In this way, the original arc length is restored. If the peak value of the pulselike current does not exceed the reference voltage, the peak value is increased or the pulse number is decreased.
