Abstract
PURPOSE: To carry out pickling to give a satisfactorily finished surface without generating gaseous NOx by pickling stainless steel in an aqueous soln. of hydrochloric acid added with ferric sulfate and/or ferric nitrate.
CONSTITUTION: SUS430, SUS304 or other stainless steel is pickled in an aqueous soln. prepared by adding ≥5wt% ferric sulfate and/or ferric nitrate to hydrochloric acid. In that event environmental pollution due to gaseous NO2 is not caused unlike a conventional known pickling method, and exhaust gas and waste liquor are treated very advantageously. In addition, the steel making cost is reduced, and the resulting stainless steel product is free from corrosion pits, surface roughening and uneven luster and has superior surface quality.
