Abstract
PURPOSE: The reaction between a higher secondary alcohol ethoxylate and sulfamic acid of less than a certain particle size is conducted in the presence of urea in an inert atmosphere to produce the titled substance used as a raw material of toiletry products and detergents in high purity and high yield.
CONSTITUTION: A higher secondary alcohol ethoxylate of the formula [n=1W18, m=1W18, n+m is 7W19, p is 1W100 on the average, containing less than 1wt% of unreacted alcohol (p=0)] and sulfamic acid passing through at least 60 mesh sieves are made to react with each other in the presence of 0.5W5wt%, based on the compound of the formula, of urea at a temperature of 70W100°C in an inert atmosphere to form a high-purity higher secondary alcohol ethoxy sulfate.
EFFECT: The addition of urea shortens the reaction time and prohibits side reactions, thus giving impurity-free and unpleasant smell-free product. Since this procedure can use raw materials of extremely low toxicity and danger, the safety of the cosmetics and detergents made from the product is increased.
