PURPOSE:To apply the function retained in the luminance signal processing circuit to the burst signal to improve S/N of the chrominance subcarrier, by superposing only burst signal components out of low bank converted color signals onto the luminance signal. CONSTITUTION:The luminance signal of low-pass filter 12 is input to nonlinear emphasis circuit 14 through synthesizing circuit 13, which synthesizes the burst signal, and is subjected to FM modulation in 15. The luminance signal and the low band converted color signal are synthesized by synthesizing circuit 17, and the output is applied to rotary head 18. As the result, emphasis is applied by emphasis circuit 14 to improve S/N of the burst signal, and the amplitude fluctuation factor is eliminated becuase the low band converted burst signal is FM-modulated together with the luminance signal and is recorded. At the reproducing time, since the burst signal becomes to be the reference of the chrominance subcarrir, the chrominance subcarrier itself becomes to be of high-quality.
