Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain different braking forces depending on the revolutional direction of a main shaft and enable to improve the safety of the device especially in case the device is applied to an escalator by a method wherein a brake drum is constituted with a part connected to a member through an one-way clutch or the like and a part directly connected to the main shaft.
CONSTITUTION: In the braking device provided to the main shaft 11 of a driving motor for the escalator, shoes 14 provided on left and right levers 13 brake the brake drum 12 fixed to the main shaft 11 by friction through a spring 15. During the ordinary operation, the shoes 14 are separated from the brake drum 12 by the function of an electromagnet 16. In such braking device, the brake drum 12 is constituted with a brake drum 18, connected to the shaft 11 through the one-way clutch 17, and a brake drum 19 directly connected to the shaft 11. The oneway clutch 17 is set so that the braking force is generated upon the descending motion of the escalator wherein the load thereof is larger and the proper different braking forces may be obtained upon elevating and descending cases.
