Abstract

PURPOSE: To perfectly hold a contact between an ingot and a mold in response to the shrinkage of the ingot by successively sliding and controlling a spacing between two water-cooling rings at the intervals of a cylinder and a belt while revolving said rings in synchronization with the cylinder.
CONSTITUTION: This prevents any gap from being produced between the ingot in a mold and water-cooling rings by compensating the shrinkage of the ingot, wherein each water-cooling ring 2 consists of a mold 18 having water-cooling holes 19 and a back plate 17 attached with a supporting guide 17'. On the other hand, a guide 12 is installed to a fixing frame 15 by way of a hydraulic cylinder 13. The supporting guide 17' of the water cooling ring 2 is fitted to the guide 12 provided with bearings 22 and the spacing of the water-cooling rings is controlled by controlling the hydraulic cylinder 13. Changing of the slab width and changing of the slab width during casting are made possible by driving the hydraulic cylinder 13. The water- cooling rings 2 are so formed that they assume the maximum width WT at the uppermost end of a cylinder 1 and the minimum width WB at the lowermost end.
