Abstract

PURPOSE: To continuously recover the leaking oil on water surface at high efficiency by making use of the gravity difference between water and oil and the difference in their interfacial tension and further making use of the difference in the capillarity produced there by way of a lipophilic and hydrophobic material.
CONSTITUTION: A recovery device unit 2 constituting this portable type recovery device 1 for leaking oil on water is provided with a body 3. This body 3 is provided with a housing 4 of a hollow body and an oil storage part 5 bulging laterally from the housing 4, thus assuming a plane view T shape. The housing 4 is formed as a floating body and the front face of the housing 4 is provided with a horizontal opening 7 in the portion above freeboard part 6, that is, draft line A-A' and this opening 7 is held sealed by an oil adsorptive material 8. Now, if this body 3 or housing 4 is placed at the level of leaking oil, it allows the oil alone to permeate selectively in the adsorptive material 8 by virture of capillarity and lipophilic and hydrophobic characteristics, causing the oil to flow dropwise into the hollow part 10 of the housing 4. This inflow oil is then supplied 12 into an oil tank 13 insulated of the buoyancy of the housing 4, whereby the oil is continuously separated and recovered.
