Abstract
PURPOSE:To achieve detection of defects on the entire section of a square steel material by setting up a probe on a rotating body facing the circumference thereof inclined to the side thereof with respect to the vertical line to the circumference thereof. CONSTITUTION:A tank 22 is filled with water 18. A square steel material 1 moves lengthwise in the tank 22. A rotating body 9 faces the circumference of the steel material parallel to the circumference thereof while connected to a motor 24 by way of a rotating shaft 12. When a gear 13 rotates with the motor 24, probe holders 10 and 10A turn in the opposite direction of the gear 13 with the same rotational frequency and therefore, the angle theta of inclination of the probe is invariably fixed in the direction irrelevant to the rotation of the gear. So, facing each other, two probes are set on a rotating body 9 with the angle theta of inclination thereof respectively as positive and negative in the direction as shown in the drawing. This enables the detection of flaws beneath the surface over the entire circumference of a square steel 1.
