Abstract
PURPOSE: To automatically set a valve clearance by a method wherein the displacement of an adjusting screw is detected as the parting displacement of the cam follower of a rocker are from a cam base surface and the valve clearance is replaced with the clearance between the cam follower and the cam base surface.
CONSTITUTION: A cylinder head 41 is set on a jig 2 and a driving unit 6 is lowered by means of the operation of cylinders 4 and 32 by pushing a starting button in ON position at the same time a displacement detector 31 in the direction of valve stem is waited at the fixed place. And simultaneously a pulse motor 17 is operated at a low speed in normal rotational direction. When the unit 6 comes down near the limit of descent, a lock nut 46 is held by a socket 25 and a driver bit 18 is engaged in the groove of the adjusting screw 47 to be screwed in the rocker arm. After that, the parting displacement of the cam follower 48 of the rocker arm 45 from the cam base surface 49a is detected by a detector 33 and the lock nut 46 is clamped according to the output from the detector.
