Abstract

PURPOSE: To form various sectional shapes without causing rupture, by plastically deforming a ribbon made of an amorphous alloy possessing more than a specified percentage of amorphous structure.
CONSTITUTION: A metallic or alloy made ribbon possessing at least 50 or more percentages of amorphous structure is employed as the material; this ribbon is drawn through the die hole while restricting the stress of the ribbon to a value lower its rupture stress. As the die aperture is reduced stepwise, the sectional shape of the material varies to a U-shape, and the material is further deformed into a solid, perfectly round section. Thereafter, this amorphous ribbon and the similar or dissimilar material made rod, sheet or pipe shape material are subjected to the forming work together simultaneously, or are wound around another dissimilar material; hereby, a composite material in various sectional shapes in obtained. According to the present method, the amorphous alloy ribbon is forced to cause yield by the plastic deformation which makes the multilayer shearing slipe cross each other, so that the forming work can be performed without causing rupture troubles and damaging mechanical properties such as high strength and high toughness.
