Abstract

PURPOSE: To make arc welding work safe and sure by so constituting the device that the colored glass plate of a welding mask is closed at the same instant when an electrode strikes welding base metals.
CONSTITUTION: A reciprocatable moving rod 3 is mounted in a device body 2 and an electrode 5 is fixed to the outside end by means of a chuck 6. A turning lever 13 is pulled to detain the detention roller 14a at the end of a detention lever 14 to the detention edge 16a, thereby tentatively setting the rod 3 in the forward moving state. When the electrode 5 is press-contacted with the welding base metals and the force in the backward moving direction is exerted to the rod 3, the detention roller 14a disengages from the detention edge 16a and moves backward, causing a switch element 18 and electric switch 19 contact. On the other hand, a microswitch 20 is closed by the backward movement prior to this and causes the electromagnetic solenoid 31 on the welding mask 21 side to energize, thereby closing a colored glass plate 24. At the same time, an electric switch 19 closes to constitute the welding circuit, which generates arc between the electrode 5 and base metals, thus the welding is started.
