Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent dirt of a transfer roller, by providing an image formation body, a transfer paper feed part, and a size detection means of transfer paper, and making the transfer roller contact with or separate from the image formation body in accordance with size of length of transfer paper. CONSTITUTION:A toner picture which has been formed on the surface 10a of the electrostatic drum 10 being an image formation body is transferred on transfer paper by the transfer roller 14. The transfer roller 14 is supported pivotaly by the lever 18b, this lever 18b is supported by the shaft 18, and when it goes round by the cam disk which is not shown in the figure, against the spring, the transfer roller 14 contacts with and separates from the electrostatic drum 10. As for this transfer paper, width and length according to its size are detected by plural detection switches 7 which have been placed in the direction of width of the carrying passage 1, and an information signal of paper length from the retrieval control circuit 4 is output. And, the lever 18b is made to go round in accordance with this length information signal, and the transfer roller contacts with and separates from the electrostatic drum.
