Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce noises as well as to ensure the braking power in the whole range of deceleration by increasing or decreasing the area of an exhaust passage to correspond to deceleration of high or low revolution of an engine.
CONSTITUTION: An exhaust brake valve 5 with a bypass exhaust passage 23 is provided in an exhaust passage 3 of an engine 1 to be opened and closed. A two-way solenoid valve 24 is provided on the way of the bypass exhaust passage 23, and connected to a detection switch 25 to detect the number of revolutions and the car speed of the engine 1. Meanwhile, the exhaust brake valve 5 is connected to a power chamber 9 for braking an exhaust brake. For the deceleration of high revolution, the bypass exhaust passage 23 is opened and the opening area of the exhaust passage 3 is essentially increase, while for the deceleration of low revolution, the exhaust passage 3 is throttled to reduce the opening area. This construction permits to ensure the braking power and reduce noises in the whole range of deceleration at the same time.
