Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable to effectively condense and recover planktons, by adding cationic polymer which contains a prescribed amount of quarternary ammonium salt as a composing unit, to the red tide.
CONSTITUTION: To the red tide produced by an abnormal propagation of planktons, the cationic polymer which contains the quaternary ammonium salt shown by equation I (where R denotes H or methyl group, R1 and R2 denote alkyl group of C1W4. A denotes chain or branched aliphatic group, and X denotes a negative group which produces ammonium nitrogen and salt), is added and the red tide is flocculated. It is desirable to use dimethylaminoethyl acrylate or methacrylate, etc., which has been changed into a quaternary compound by benzyl halide, as the quaternary ammonium salt shown by equation I. The flocculant can be obtained from a quaternary ammonium salt exclusively or by the copolymerizing it with other monomers.
