Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent deterioration of a cationic acrylic polymer flocculant due to hydrolysis by adjusting an aq. soln. of the flocculant to pH≤5.5.
CONSTITUTION: A solid acid such as sulfamic acid or citric acid is mixed into a cationic polymer flocculant made of copolymer of less than 50 mol% of a cationic monomer, a quat. ammonium salt of aminoethylacrylate of the formula, and acrylamide. Thus, an aq. soln. of the flocculant is adjusted to pH≤ 5.5 to prevent cation deterioration. The ratio of the acid mixed is about 2W10% to the flocculant in case of sulfamic acid.
