Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the flocculating performance of a flocculant even for organic sludge containing high concentrations of salts by adding an organic high-molecular substance having a specific constitutional unit to the flocculant for sludge.
CONSTITUTION: The flocculant contains an organic high molecular substance having a constitutional unit of the formula I. A monomer serving as the constitutional unit of the formula I is manufactured from reaction of a primary to tertiary aminoalkyl(metha)acrylate with an alkyl(or halo)benzyl halide. The flocculant has excellent flocculating performance for suspensions containing high concentrations of salts and having an electric conductivity of approx. 10,000μs/cm or more, e.g., excess sludge obtained by subjecting night soil to dilution with sea water and then to activated sludge treatment, etc.
