Abstract
PURPOSE: To detect the presence of a crack by a method wherein after a liquid with a good wetting nature, low viscosity and high volatility is applied to the surface of a test body, it is wiped off dried, and the body surface is scanned by a sensor that sences vapor of the applied liquid.
CONSTITUTION: The liquid 2 such as water is applied to the surface of the body 1 to soak itself in the crack of the body 1. Next the liquid on the body surface is wiped off and the surface is dried. Time required for evaporation of the liquid 2 that soaked in the crack is longer than that of the liquid left on the surface of the body. Accordingly since the liquid is left in the crack 3, a temperature sensor can be used to scan the surface of the body 1 when the liquid is water, and the presence of a crack can be detected by detecting the vapor, which flows out from the crack, by means of the sensor 4.
