Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the middle elongation of the cast ingot owing to the thermal expansion of a pair of revolving rolls and save secondary fabrication by casting and rolling the molten metal by the said rolls and cooling the rolls before the rolls again return to the casting and rolling position.
CONSTITUTION: Molten metal of a melting furnace 1 is continuously supplied to a tundish 3 through a pipe 2 and is poured into the gap between rolls 5, 5 by way of a spout 4, whereby casting and rolling are accomplished simultaneously. Next, cooling water is injected from the plural cooling nozzles 6 installed in the position ahead of the position where the rolls 5, 5 contacted the molten metal in the roll revolving direction, in the width direction of the rolls near the outlet of a cast ingot 11. Temperatures are then measured by the thermocouples 7 at the center and both ends of the rolls 5 and the amount of water is so controlled that the specified temperature range is reached.
