Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain lock-up condition in such a way that a high gear clutch of a torque converter is locked at the optimum speed by providing a lock-up controller which is changeable at its optimum value in response to running load for the lock- up speed.
CONSTITUTION: A lock-up control valve 30 having a spool 30a capable of changing lock-up speeds to the optimum values in response to the running load, and a lock-up controller composed of a solenoid 31 electronically controlled are provided. When the solenoid 31 is energized, a plunger 31a comes to supply rear clutch pressure, and a control valve 30 has the spool 30a moved from the upper half part as shown in the figure to the lower half part position. Thus, a lock-up chamber 27 is made to be in no pressure condition, a lock-up clutch piston 20 is moved to the left side as shown in the figure by the pressure in a converter chamber 63, a clutch facing 19 is forcibly contacted with the end wall of a converter cover 6, so that lock-up condition is obtained in direct connection of a pump impeller 3 and a turbine runner 8.
