Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R1 is H or lower alkyl; R2 is H, lower alkyl or aryl or R1 and R2 together with the adjacent carbon atoms may form hydrocarbon ring).
EXAMPLE: Bis(3-isoxazolyl)disulfide.
USE: A synthetic intermediate for an agricultural chemical, for example, the compound of formula I is reacted with a trivalent phosphorus compound having the formula (R4O)3P (R4 is lower alkyl) to give a compound of formula II useful as an insecticide.
PROCESS: A compound of formula III (R3 is methyl, lower alkenyl having a double bond at the β-position, benzyl, etc.) is brought into contact with an equimolar amount of an oxidizing agent, e.g. chlorine or sulfuryl bromide, in an inert solvent to give the compound of formula I. The reaction conditions are room temperature to 100°C and 1W24hr.
