Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a solvent-insoluble powdery anion exchange resin by a simple method, by dispersing solid PVC in a solvent, reacting the PVC with azido ions in the heterogeneous system and then reacting the product with a phosphine compound.
CONSTITUTION: Powdery polyvinyl chloride in which part of chlorine atoms are replaced with azido groups is obtained by dispersing commercially available powder polyvinyl chloride in a mixed solvent consisting of water, dimethylformamide, etc. and, after addition of sodium azide, heating the dispersion. When this azido group- containing powdery polyvinyl chloride in the state of dispersion in an organic solvent such as benzene is reacted with a phosphine compound such as triphenylphosphine, the azido groups are converted into phosphine-imine structure. When the resulting phosphine-imine structure containing powdery polymer is heated further in the form of the reaction mixture or is heated after separation and subsequent dispersion in a different solvent, the intermolecular and intramolecular reactions proceed to produce the purpose powdery crosslinked polymer having a phosphonium salt structure.
